Part II Data Warehousing Information Storage Measures

S Hello Friends I apologize if I could put these post continuously, but it turns out there was a little problem with my wiring and I was a bit difficult for the changes that were made, but hey I'm here to continue.

Today, the issue touches Storage measures for which information is important because from this it follows many needs of knowledge, whether at work, when buying a computer equipment, acquired when a music player device , when saving the information into the computer and in many of the procedures performed over the Internet will need to know what information measures.

If you remember we talked in the previous post mentioned binary systems is the basis to enter into this subject, as well to measure the amount of data that can be stored either on a computer hard disk, CD, USB Memory, SD Memory etc. and even the same computer memory using various terms (bit, byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte ...)

What is a bit?

Manipulated is the smallest unit of computer information (0) off and (1) on and remember, this is generated by magnetic impulses.

Bit stands for binary digit. (Binary digit). A bit is a digit binary number system.

What is a Byte (b)?

Byte is an English word (pronounced [bait] or ['bi.te]), that while the Spanish Royal Academy has been accepted as equivalent to octet (ie eight bits), for correct, one byte must be considered a contiguous sequence of bits, whose size depends on your character information or code that is defined.

In other words, a byte is the set of eight bit constant `s which can only store two values (0) and (1), and can store one character (letter, number or special symbol).

One character = a letter or a number or a special sign

az AZ 0 ... 9 ¿.;"#$/( ...

Remember the example of the previous post where pressing the letter A actually sends a binary sequence and the system interprets it as "A". The graphical representation of a byte would be as follows:

With a set of 8 bits can get up to a total of 255 different combinations for each byte (see Full ASCII).

But as in any computer it is necessary to store more of a character which have been created as broader measures the amount of information, today as they have more use are the Gibabyte and Terabytes but technological advances are constant in the not too distant we may be talking beyond the TB being direct user.

In short the higher bytes more capacity.

In the following table of equivalence is remarkable progress and storage needs increase.

With this we have seen we can understand the symbols found on devices in the ad to make a better choice but beyond that, they are skills that are necessary to understand when the information stored there next topic so do not miss The next post memory capacity of computers and storage devices where we will see how much fits on a cd, usb stick, hard drive.

But for now this is all for today.

Happy Weekend

Carlos Olvera
