The Order of the Temple and the cult of the Black Virgin
After reviewing the events, there are reasonable grounds to believe evidence that Bernard of Clairvaux share knowledge of the enigmatic Knights Templar, as has been clearly established its connection with the Order of the Temple, which would not be confined to its promoter. A common point between the Order of the Temple and St. Bernard of Clairvaux, of great importance to better understand the link between the two parties would be building many temples, cathedrals and abbeys, all dedicated to "Our Lady", a somewhat ambiguous invocation, according to various authors, in fact was referring to Mary Magdalene. But what we can find evidence of this? Despite the apparent devotion to the Virgin Mary, which arise in the different cathedrals Templar, the truth is that almost all of them, always appeared the figure of Mary Magdalene in a conspicuous place at all times showing a special effort to highlight the importance of the home of Mary Magdalene, as did Bernard of Clairvaux himself in his speeches to the Cistercian monks, the Knights Templar or the "Sons of Solomon," a guild of stonemasons responsible for the construction of Gothic cathedrals, to which demanded the utmost respect for the House of Bethany, the home of Martha and Mary.
Another significant finding, we would find when Bernard of Clairvaux does appeal to the Second Crusade, from the church of St. Mary Magdalene in Vezelay, in terms that might imply that he was symbolically reclaiming the land that would otherwise time, would have accrued to the holy race of Mary Magdalene, adding to that, the fact that the remains of the saint, were allegedly kept in the temple, it would not be until the year 1279 when the Prince Salerno, Charles II of Anjou, "discovered" the remains of Mary Magdalene in the crypt of St. Maximin.
This devotion manifested in Bernard of Clairvaux by Mary Magdalene, would be linked with the cult of the Black Madonnas, which came originally from the ancient Gnostic traditions. But to better understand what happened, we must return to remember, as we have seen, as the Knights Templar, apparently some sort of secret discovered in the cellars dug into the stables of Solomon's Temple, which they share only the Pope Honorius II, the Patriarch of Jerusalem and St. Bernard of Clairvaux itself, as would be reflected in the prologue to the Rule of the Order and referred to what happened at the Council of Troyes.
We found in these excavations, or perhaps the information I already knew Bernard of Clairvaux, the Knights Templar has to travel to Egypt in particular and above all, the temple of the Egyptian goddess Isis - the female principle of fertility and knowledge - on the island of Philae, where they were going to gain knowledge or information they were seeking. It is from then that is a cult of the Black Madonna, which represents the image of the goddess Isis suckling her son Horus, symbolizing the transformation of transcendental and esoteric knowledge, which is transmitted through milk breast of the goddess, and that in Catholic doctrine, be converted into different images of the virgin with child. Proof of virgins dedicated to the black by the Knights Templar, we can find it in almost all temples and cathedrals that were built by them, where the reference to "Our Lady" or "Notre Dame" was actually made to refer to Mary Magdalene, as several authors have pointed out, and historians. Esotericism practiced by St. Bernard of Clairvaux, we can find in the continuous allusions that Bernardo was the "Song of Songs," where in a cryptic and subtle, referring to Mary Magdalene, referring to the love between spouses, even when it is a controversial and difficult text comment for the Church.
The Knights Templar knew the importance of the sites that previously had been used by primitive cultures, as centers of pagan worship to the Great Mother Goddess, as with the Celts, so that, by appearing in such places an image of a black virgin, used to build a temple of worship in the same place had been found the above image. The Goddess Isis, symbolize the land of Egypt, black and fertile, which are washed by the Nile, and which, overflowing the same, such as flooding occurred annually in the sacred river, and after returning to normal water , the land was darkened by the contributions of the mud (sludge and sediment) that the waters had left, making it suitable for fertilizing and seeding. The Knights Templar were well to the Great Goddess Isis as the seed of life, as had always been revered by the Egyptians. But the real cause of this profound belief adopted by the Temple, perhaps in another reality lies far more important. The stay of the Knights Templar in the Holy Land was long enough for there to be some mutual influence between them and the Islamic culture.
So much so that some Muslims, came to join the Order of the Temple, while the Templars themselves deeper understanding of Islamic culture. The Temple also became interested in other cultures and societies tight, Jewish, Gnostic or Sufi, which led them to absorb and influence of other currents, which made the Order of the Temple had the idea of returning to a single religious origin, where possible harmonization and religious syncretism of other cultures and esoteric, which obviously resulted in a departure from the Catholic Church. That is why, knowing that the return to the ancient rituals to Earth as the Mother Creator of life and worship of pagan deities, could pose a serious conflict and confrontation with the Catholic Church decided to use the figure of "Our Lady "to refer to the Mother Goddess and camouflage under the image of a black Madonna, while the image is associated with Mary Magdalene, precisely the same legend that Mary Magdalene was identified as the mother of the offspring of Jesus. Another fact that shows the initiatory symbolism represented by St. Bernard of Clairvaux, can be found in the different existing altarpieces called "Lactation of St. Bernard" (the lactatio), where you can watch a St. Bernard kneeling at the feet of a Madonna holding the child in her arms, while from the bare breast of the Virgin, there is a stream of milk that goes directly to the mouth of the Saint.
As we have seen, for the previous picture where we see the goddess Isis suckling Horus, the image of St. Bernard, comes to symbolize the transmission of esoteric knowledge, it is clear that this image, which are usually found not in vain chapels belonging to the Temple, comes to represent San Bernardo as an initiate of the esoteric wisdom.
