Possible complications after breast augmentation surgery
Possible complications of breast augmentation surgery
Although it is a cosmetic procedure, breast implant surgery can be risky, such as:
* Breast pain
* Changes in sensitivity in the nipple and breast
* The formation of scar tissue and hardening in the area around the implant
(Capsular contracture)
* Scarring
* Bleeding
* Infection
* Problems with the size or shape of the implants (eg, breasts may not be symmetrical)
It is also possible that the implants rupture or leaking. If the rupture of saline implants, the saline is safely absorbed by the body. A leaking silicone can remain within the implant shell or deposited elsewhere. You will notice when you break a saline implant, as it will deflate but the silicone implants may cause no obvious symptoms when they break. This is called silent rupture.
Women with silicone implants filled with gel will have an MRI done three years after implant surgery and then MRI every two years to check for silent rupture. If they break your implants, you need to remove or replace them.
You can reduce the risk of complications with the selection of a surgeon who has had at least five years of surgical training and a minimum of two years of experience in plastic surgery.
Having breast implants may make it harder to be screened with mammography, but special X-ray can better explore the area. However, research indicates that breast implants do not increase your risk of breast cancer. Breast implants may make it harder for you to breastfeed.
Breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. You may have to do the replacement of implants, complications, or if the size and shape of breasts change over time.
